FYI, the upgrade to MT 4.1 hosed my custom search/tag search templates, so you’ll be stuck with the horrid default Movable Type ‘red stripe’ layout for searching or navigating via tags for the next day or two until I get a bit of extra time to reconfigure it all again. I guess things could have gone far worse, but honestly a 4.0 -> 4.1 upgrade should have been seamless (god knows I follow the instructions to the letter each time).

Sorry for the hiccups, promise I’ll dust off my l33t CSS skillz and re-facelift the search templates shortly. They’re still fully functional, just butt-ugly for the moment.

I must admit- I’m really liking Movable Type 4 (at least release candidate 4- it’s still in beta). There were definitely some migration hurdles- an incompatible captcha system, a few template errors that needed tracking down, some heavy spam filter tuning – but in general things are working well and didn’t take too long to get sorted out.

One big up- I really ike the new Movable Type admin interface. It’s cleaner of design, more straightforward in function, with a lot of new features- and just seems easier to work with in general.

I haven’t spent much time really tweaking the new features, but think that the scheduled posting and ’standalone pages’ features will be new favorites. Best of all, although posting comments still isn’t overly speedy, it’s much faster now than it was last week on MT 3.x. And that, to me, is well worth the pain of upgrading.

Heads-up o’ loyal readers – all two of you – comments may be a bit wonked for the next day or two as I recraft my captchas for the inevitable Movable Type 4 upgrade, which is partially in progress. So basically don’t get too burnt if you find yourself unable to rant at me for the next few days, and please send me a note via the ‘Contact’ link in the header if you see other weirdnesses as I tweak.

Update – I’m now back to feature parity with my old installation, with the captcha gone from comments and the updated spam filter holding resiliency like a champ (knock wood) in it’s place. Expectations are that everything works as expected now, so please ping me if it does not, as I’m going to start updating individual features/templates one by one now. Thanks in advance.
